The Cosmos and Nature
by Gallery Gahoedong 60
Location: Gallery Gahoedon60
Artist(s): So Young PARK
Date: 7 Sep - 16 Sep 2012

So Young Park's artwork looks like clusters of grapes. But if looking in details, it's a geometric space composing of bamboo and apricot flower. There is the new world grouped by bamboo coexisting with apricot flower in the microscopic space.
Every oriental painter has painted the Four Gracious Plants - plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo - and these two plants above have been used as main objects. However, Park expressed them as the natural objects keeping mystique in her works. Again, unlike the four gracious plants have been showed 'already been established meanings' in typical oriental paints, her works show 'magnanimity through circulation', which is the process of each entity being the one like variation.
In the preface of solo exhibition in 2009, a critic Sang Cheol Kim expressed her works as 'escaping from emphasis of a spiritual value a 'india ink' has had, a formative medium using the physical properties and re-interpreted four gracious plants as natural objects'. Also, her work is not only achievement of formative art,  but it is also new challenge as the Korean painter.
Two  great and basic roots, 'universe' and 'nature', can not be separated with arts, and it should be started from an emotional and microscopic view, rather than a rational and macroscopic one.
