I was born in 1988 and grew up in Korea. It's not unclear since when but the Confucian culture has become a part of me. I have always heard 'if you are a man..', or 'if you are woman…'. When being facing with something against custom, we do a value judgement instinctively - it's bad, wrong or dangerous. This vague answer cover us and rises reaction to push opposite opinions out of mind. Also, this reaction makes unnecessary guilty in our mind. Now I call it as 'Red Complex'.
'Red' color means every taboo issues in the Confucian culture. To escape from customary values and hasty judgement, I thought this theme is appropriate.
When seeing materials or techniques, people may think it's very traditional, but I used non-classical way, such as casting or cutting sheets. Familiar first impression attracts people to artworks and then I show modification and overthrow.
I know that all Confucian customs are not evil, and just wanted to make a balance between custom and changes.
