The winner of 11th Songeun Art Award, Kyung-Woo Han studied at Seoul National University(BFA), Chicago Art Institute(MFA), and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. After the first exhibition in Korea, 'Blind Spot' (Salon de H, 2011), he has held solo exhibitions at Alternative Space LOOP and Salon de H, and participated in group exhibitions at Leeum and Seoul Museum of Art. Also, he has joined residency programs in Seoul Art Space Nanji and Goyang Art Space managed by National Museum of Modern Contemporary Art.
He focuses on a contradicting gap between 'vision' seeing an object and our 'perspective.' Human sight to recognize an object holds a dominant position. When seeing a familiar image, however, we make a mistake, trying to recognize true image based on our knowledge rather than itself. The artist has worked starting from a subjective point of recognition, for example, 'Star Pattern Shirt'(2011) suggests limitation of visual under concept through 'the American flag' on screen in real time consisting of many things such as star pattern shirt and cabinet. In this exhibition, Han shows a new work with awareness controlled by idea.
When entering in the exhibition space, there is a large scale sculpture in gray. From a top view, it is a sculpture of 'I MIND' but it is just side from the entrance. 'I MIND' is the theme for the exhibition and a possibility to think variously in terms of a viewpoint. Above this, there are different types of works to shed light on the gap between images formed by awareness and desire.
