Part 2, The Interval

These accounts are concerned with memories. The wind and the air that are felt while walking, figures, scenes and trivial objects that seem familiar, without any particular reason, these led me to recall memories about the past (some older and others more recent) Even when you feel close to them, they are still far away - barely touchable or beyond possession. They are beyond expression and even then subtlety is always embedded within the empty words. While thinking of personal memories, I came to realize that they are all mixed up, both truth and distortion. Thus, it is interesting to note that these qualities of memories overlapped one another or sometimes they turned into something else. It is insignificant to distinguish the true memories from the distorted. I attempt to capture moments of memories and leave images, as if documenting them so that the captured things (emotional collision between the past and the present) can be transformed into images as vividly as possible. It is quite impulsive but I strive to believe that it is out of intuition. When momentary expressions within a specific memory and temporal and spatial backgrounds are rendered into an image, it makes the viewer feel the distance due to its void yet solid atmosphere, exuding a certain aura and creating a melancholy mood. It has something to do with photography or film. Like photography which captures moments, and film which connects montages, it can make a storyline when each piece comprises a whole structure. In other words, a single image is not sufficient to bring about a final piece. The memories from the distant past feel more unstable and bring up more hesitancy. Blurry and hazy images are created out of it and sometimes, they are similar to images from some photos or films. They are utilized to overlap with realistic memories (about what was personally experienced) and appropriated memories (appropriation of images from other media sometimes recalls personal experiences), and they often leave deceptive traces that make it hard to name them as memories. Instead of addressing clear boundaries within the indelible and incessant memories, I would rather disclose these accounts as they are, even though they might not be fully solid as stories dealing with volatile emotional flow. - GUNA
