There it is
by Gallery Dam
Location: Gallery Dam
Artist(s): Eunmi LEE
Date: 1 Oct - 10 Oct 2013

An object the works of 'There it is' focus on is a thing or space existing somewhere cleaarly. Especially, what appears repeatedly in the exhibition is a wall, stairs or floor. We do not know what it means at the same time with knowing what it is. We know that is the wall, stair, or floor but it does not mean anything. Because the artist does neither copy nor recreate such places. Obviously, she intended to not describe the object finely or precisely.

Also, there is an edge or corner showing frequently. The artist has focused on a meaning of layers, and in a sense, these are the best materials to reveal it. In 'There it is', the space she focuses on is made of edges and i it is mostly empty, which can be assumed that there was the object before. Thus, the artist pays attention to an invisible trace after the thing left. The space on canvas means 'a moment of emptiness' or 'a empty gap'.

The artist has been worried about seeing or expressing only one side of the object or the world so that pursues 'intended ambiguity'. It reveals how she thinks of the truth of a life or the world. Despite of this, she does not give it up but not intend directly. It can be found that her world of art gets deeper comparing to her previous works. Also, colors on the works of this exhibition have higher density and volume but they are not turbid. They gained material solidity so that make the space with a sense of depth.

The new exhibition 'There it is' will be a chance to look back her last seven years and find a chance for the next step.
