Jinhong Park Solo Exhibition
by Gallery Dam
Location: Gallery Dam
Artist(s): Jinhong PARK
Date: 4 Mar - 17 Mar 2013

Since the first exhibition in 2000, Jinhong Park has taken a portrait constantly. Many artists have painted portraits, which reveal their agony. Park's portrait doesn't show a face clearly, but appearance of anguished person in the abyss can be found through painting over on canvas or scrapping paint off.
As a critic Seon-Young Lee mentioned, drawn lines or sprayed paints in his work reflect a minute of body movement. He continuously removes and scratches his works, because he thinks that unreadable face, line and colour have to meet each other like a puzzle, even though the artist cannot complete any work during five years. In his portrait, shape in shape, and colour in colour are subtly placed. Park's work is spontaneous but harmonious. This is his intention to change coincidence into inevitability, and vice versa. He doesn't remove traces or repetition on canvas, but keeps them to make a certain foam. In this exhibition, audience can be found own identity in an abyss of consciousness and unconscious.
