Faceless Portrait
by Gallery K.O.N.G
Location: Gallery K.O.N.G
Artist(s): Kang JUNG
Date: 23 Oct - 29 Oct 2012

This is Kang Jung's works, who selected by SeMA young artist program, will be exhibited. The title 'Faceless portrait' is mix of contradict words, 'faceless' and 'portrait'. Generally, faceless portrait has no function as portrait. However, as Jung deletes a face, he emphasizes an importance of face. Because, it has a function but loses value, so that he tries to attach value to portrait of today in a different approach.
If a worn face through many replicate goods is excluded, which can be attracted to our eyes?
As the artist supposed it lost that function, and deleted face on photograph, emphasized other details which consist of a person. Thus, audience should guess who a person is through a part of body, hands, or clothes.
The exhibition 'Faceless portrait' throws a question about a meaning of face through describing face differently, unlike existing portrait.
