Nothing to See: Episode lll
by Gallery K.O.N.G
Location: Gallery K.O.N.G
Artist(s): Bommsoon LEE
Date: 17 Sep - 23 Sep 2012

What if there is nothing to see? Mostly, we receive a visual impulse from artworks at an exhibition. Based on that action, the new exhibition 'Nothing to See', discussing about a way of existence of arts, will be held from 17 to 23 September.
Michael Fried has suggested a word 'Theatricality', which is to express a formal character of viewing  artworks and that action. This exhibition provides the stage in terms of its view to audience. 'Nothing to See' focuses on audience as an actor/actress who is enjoying art, and minimizes visual factors. Also, it invites people to talk about what kind of form the arts exists.
Once stepping in the venue, the audience becomes an actor/actress in the spotlight, and then narration is being played. The voice telling about an artwork, called one incident, from many viewpoints is like inspiring when listening a story, rather than experience of real artwork. As we have different thought for a novel or movie but don't have to feel uncomfortable about it, different voice in the exhibition venue meets the spirit of audience and creates a new concept.
This exhibition is third one of the series 'Nothing to See', a project asking a question about the meaning of arts in terms of modern esthetics. Unlike the first project was about a way of viewing artwork, and the second one was to talk about how understating art, this exhibition is talking about how arts exists as a contemporary meaning, as changing the existing system of aesthetics into nonsensical humor.
