CE is a journal of contemporary photography and creative writing, aimed at delivering content to creative-minded individuals on a quarterly basis. Incorporating a variety of writing styles and aesthetic sensibilities, CE locates itself at the interstices of high and low art, litmag and fanzine, fiction and journalism, conceptual and concrete. CE approaches each issue by adopting a theme to unify and deepen the connections between the magazine’s distinct pieces. Within this loose framework, readers engage in a carefully curated interaction with the issue at (in) hand; sublimated interrelations emerge from diffuse dialogues, shades of meaning come into focus through incidental double exposures.
Each issue of CE includes an in-depth interview with an internationally recognized photographer and spread of his/her recent work. CE also features the work of one emerging photographer per issue in its effort to support young talent around the globe.
CE invites one contemporary art curator to contribute a curatorial statement to establish a developed context for each issue’s theme. Additionally, each issue includes a digital mixtape—created in collaboration with The Ampeater Review—available for free download from ampeatermusic.com, with an accompanying essay.
With an image to text ratio of 40:60, CE represents a commitment to publishing a magazine-as-art-object and features compelling and creative writing as a companion to the very best in photography today.
CE is an independent publication with an emphasis on English-speaking markets around the world and material distribution based in South Korea.
CE is seeking partnerships with interested parties to develop and promote the aims of the magazine and expand its readership. If you would like to get involved, submit a proposal, or otherwise interact with CE, please contact ed.concreteexperience@gmail.com.
