Doosan Gallery presents the exhibition of Nakhee Sung entitled ‘Within’ from April 7, 2011 to April 28, 2011. In this exhibition are featured her works made since 2007.
Sung had produced paintings that used acrylic paint and canvas until a few years ago. This exhibition introduces her drawings and murals for which she employed such mediums as pencils, gouache and paper. These works show diverse abstract images created by the artist’s hand that dances in tune with her own inner imperatives. A large number of Sung’s works, which has been made in different physical spaces, under different psychological conditions and during different time frames, join together within the space of the gallery while demonstrating that all these works are woven from the single thread of the artist’s inner mind.
Sung’s intrinsic impulse to fill an empty space in a new way results in the translation of the pleasure felt in the process of art-making into abstract images which fill the entire picture plane. The space of the gallery becomes a work of art as the unrestrained visual voyage across the picture plane extends itself onto its walls. The gallery space welcomes viewers as part of the artwork while allowing them to experience the rhythm and energy that emanate from the inner self of the artist and inviting them to an enjoyable visual exploration.
