Enjoying Golf A Hundred Times Better
by UrbanArt
Location: UrbanArt
Date: 12 Apr - 30 May 2011

‘Enjoying Golf A Hundred Time Better’ finds the correlation between Golf and Art by presenting paintings and sculptures that express the golf related themes and elements in direct or metaphorical way. 4 painters and 8 sculptors of different generations and various styles fill the gallery with their own interpretation of golf.

Two dimensional works—A popular artist Kang Ji Man’s humorous expression; Kim Dukki’s presentation of beautiful landscape with vivid colors and dots; Ahn Yun Mo and Oh Soon Hwan’s satirical touch for expressing the pleasure of golf—and sculptures and installation works created with bubbly imaginations and meticulous execution— champagne bubbles made with golf balls; a portrait of the artist springing from the hole; an ostrich made with a golf club and gloves; a golf ball surrounded by Mickey mice; and a bunker expressed as the pee of a dog—are enough to delight art lovers and audience as well as golfers.

Golf and Art share a common denominator in contributing towards elevating the quality of life and offering entertainment and relaxation to people. They also have inseparable correlation to the mother earth and require a mature stance before a meister’s devotion for accomplishment. People in current society seek for cultural aspirations in order to escape from complexity in life, and Golf and Art provides time and space for them to break out of insipid daily lives.

It is possible to think analogically with the elements that compose the nature and converting them into the premising value before Golf and Art. Ground can be compared to the ‘chance’ where you can stand on and play, water as ‘source’ to provide, air as ‘patience’ bearing time required for maturity, and fire as burning ‘passion’ to accomplish something. These elements are also required for art, and under meister’s cohesion and composition as a whole, the artwork reaches the level of completion. This tells that Golf and Art are fulfilled with placing nature in the midst and that there is an evident pathway between the two.

This exhibition shows the endeavor of two industries trying bridge the gap among the public, art and sports and will be recognized as an exhibition that maximized the accordance between Golf and Art.
