Hand-writing letter, or sms with emoticons has the same function. However, contents or idiom has been changed in terms of a change of media. Matisse's work is an intimate hand-writing letter, while work by Julian Opie is like a message with the language of teenagers. But I don't mean old expression is warm and clear, but new way is cold. Instead, I want to say that expressing emotion and communicating are fundamental side beyond evolution. 
When I met Michael Lee's work, felt it stimulates my longing for lost originals. Without any pressure to receive attention with new idea or concept, he tries to recreate pleasure and moving feeling in mind. A meaningless status of boundary between abstraction and composition, pureness and naturalness of remains without all decorations and unnecessity and perfect balance are the world he suggests. 
He doesn't emphasize himself in his painting. From 'zero', he shows his aesthetic world. It is not neither cold nor warm, or soft nor sharp. This is the spiritualized world by communication of spirits.
