Korea Arts Council’s Arko Art Center hosts <2009 ARKO Artist-Centered Network: DECENTERED> exhibition from Dec. 24 2009 to Jan 31 2010. This binannual program aims to promote networking among different local communities by discovering and introducing new artists around the nation, through close collaboration with local art museums. This year’s program will be held jointly by Arko Art Center (Seoul), Gwangju Museum of Art(Gwangju), and Busan Museum of Modern Art(Busan). The exhibition will commence on Dec 24, 2009, followed by tours to Gwangju in February and Busan in June.  

The first exhibition for the local network program will be held under the theme of DECENTERED (decentralization), methodologically resolving inter-local issues through an equal connection of networks, and at the same time, illuminating the desires of contemporary artists and the consequential decentralization of their gazes. Also, we wish to seek the roles of decentralized art museums that serve as mediums between artists and various audiences, establishing local museums as the place for experiencing the encounter between man and space. Arko Art Center and its collaborators will, through this exhibition, provide a cultural foundation which reveals the a world in which visible as well as invisible images and abstract concepts coexist, within the realm of human existence.   

2009 ARKO Artist-Centered Network : DECENTERED provides an opportunity for exploring the cultural variety of new artists around the nation, and raise interest in the structure and essential nature of social texts through the exhibited works.
