Joo Kyung Yoon studied photography from California Institute of the Arts (M.F.A) and San Francisco Art Institute (B.F.A). Following her works including photographs taken urban scenes from Jongno in Seoul in mid 1980’s, self-portrait disposed herself standing on surfaces of militarism, nationalism, and colonialism exhibited in her solo shows “Contents of Self-Portrait II” (Project space Sarubia, Seoul, 2004) and “Raising a Red Flag” (2007), and “Building #1” (2006) captured a remaining house cut off by redevelop construction, she has been reflecting others excluded by hegemony through her act and identity related to real. She has participated several group exhibitions, “Platform in Kimusa(the old Korean Defense Security Command)” (2009), “DMZ – 2005, International Art Project” (2005), and “Gwangju Biennale” (2002).
