Chi Yung Chung works beyond fields of video and painting with a question about the connection between them. The theme of this exhibition is 'destroyed hero' or 'great dumping site', which means conflict and emptiness from the modernism from 1950 and 60s, when people believed science and space engineer would rescue humanity, and contemporary art when its belief destroyed.
In a process of making painting using collected images through the visual media, the artist gave a question about the possibility of painting and the limitation of photograph, and perceived there is no limitation in oil painting, unlike photograph.
Using characteristics of painting, wild dynamic range and great variable contrast, new art works in this exhibition were completed with meager shading and colour changing in detailed and realistic style. From those works, the artist earned photorealism painting and made images on canvas, which should be noble and heroic, discouraged and powerless.
