Byoungmin Choi's scupture has been worked consistently for last 40years in terms of the content. From the mid of 70's, the golden age of Modernism, to present, he has pursued 'ideal person' with materials, such as 'man', 'destiny', 'myth', and 'ordinary life', continuously through his sculptures.
In his first exhibition in 1988, his intaglio relief which shows a part of human body with unique form and feeling received a good evaluation. His sculpture expressed finiteness, reality, anger and sympathy (by critic).
After then, he maintained basis and theme, but in sculpture form, he changed to carving in the round. In early 1990s, he showed his unique analysis of body combining with naive background, like ancient myth, legend and shamanism, and expressed Korean root and imagery.
Recently, he has showed a view of child or purity coming from insight of life as he is getting older. And in this exhibition, he exhibits his represent works (Kwanhoon Gallery) and newest works (Namu Artist's Space) to reveal the theme 'human-universe' synthetically. To him, this is retrospection for his works for 40 years and a new chance to seek the sculpture in Korea.
