Each country has its specital characteristics. Some may have doubt about the exhibition title, the ego generation. Is there a generation without an ego? A group of artists born in the 1970s were referred to as the cruel generation or the cartoon generation. These terms are so obscure and abstract. We may make interpretations based on a combination of our knowledge and experience. These artists were the first generation to experience the absence turbulent contemporary Chinese history.
This exhibition introduces works by the artists in their mid and late 30s who are curruently crucial and most active in the contemporary Chinese art scene. The artists include Li Jikai, Xiong Yu, Zheng Delong, Jia Gang, and Yin Jun, plus Yin Kun who was born in the late 1960, and a linking pin in the two Slendid Ethics exhibitions.
