Akira OKAMOTO was born in Osaka in 1981. His artwork has been exhibited in Tokyo, Osaka and at international art fairs. He currently lives and works in Osaka. He is considered to be among the top of promising young artists from Japan.

This is show his fourth exhibition at Gallery Tsubaki.

Okamoto’s technique is unique not in his photography, but in the developing process.

By painting on light sensitive chemicals on photographic paper, he brings out combinations of red, blue, and yellow during the development process using various lights in order to produce the images he wants. His works may be seen as drawings that take advantage of photographic development. As his style is constantly evolving, he is now combining this with another motif to his style on this exhibition – photographs from his environment; leaves, flowers and other items which he sees on a daily basis.

By combining traditional photography and his newly developed technique, Okamoto is able to reproduce images with purity, while providing the works with a depth that will allow for further interpretation from his audience.

Okamoto wishes to express a universal feeling of beauty viewers of his works. “When I produce such works, I put an importance on beauty and correlate different materials with the image,” Okamoto says of his art. He will continue to evolve his developing technique into the future.
