Ayumi Ikeda was born in the Gunma Prefecture in 1964. In 1990 he completed the Master’s Course at Musashino University of Arts, and in 1998 he got the Master at Chelsea University of Arts(London).
In 2008, three years after the last solo-exhibition at Gallery Tsubaki, he makes works where the landscapes unsurprisingly develop themselves in front of the viewer’s eyes. The neglect of the peaceful ordinary is a new characteristic of Ikeda, and he takes it to the extreme. The explosion scenery in highly bright coloration and with the feel of low humidity is carried out as if to paint “something beautiful”.
Even now, there can’t be said much about the artist himself. Ikeda is a very shy person, and identical to the past exhibitions he is very tranquil. When asking about the theme he answered laughing: “My new works can be seen as explosions of the silence”.
