In 2004, when private collections were becoming popular, Why not live for Art? explored this trend by presenting private collections made by nine individual collectors, discovering new forms that collections were taking, revealing what sort of people the collectors were, and demonstrating the attraction of art that emerges through the act of collecting. Less than ten years have passed since that exhibition, but this period has seen the launch of a magazine for collectors, active networking between collectors, and it has become more common for private individuals to acquire and collect art.
In this second exhibition, we have shifted to the focus to a new generation of collectors, examining the art scene in Japan and internationally today, and considering its prospects for the future. Including unique works by popular artists and works by emerging artists in other countries, this exhibition is an opportunity to view works that are not normally accessible to the public.
