Well, that's just a chill
by ShugoArts
Location: ShugoArts
Artist(s): LEE Kit
Date: 30 Oct - 20 Nov 2010

ShugoArts is pleased to present 'Well, that's just a chill.' the first solo exhibition for Lee Kit held in Japan. Lee Kit was born in Hong Kong in 1978 and he continues to live there. He has garnered critical acclaim not just in Hong Kong but around the world, participating in major exhibitions such as the 3rd Guangzhou Triennale in 2008 and "Platform in Kimusa" in Seoul in 2009.

For his unique style of painting, which he calls "Hand-painted cloth," Kit exhibits tablecloths, bed sheets and curtains that have been used in real life by himself or his friends. The simple stripe patterns and colors convey the kind of comfort peculiar to things designed for everyday life.  This exhibition includes two specially made series. For the "Story" series, Kit makes depictions on cloth of towels, sheets and other things found in photographs on the internet. He also makes a cardboard box for storing those cloths, which is adorned with a picture he calls "packaging for painting." The second series, "Cardboard paintings" consists of paintings (made on cardboard) of soap and detergent brand logos that the artist - for reasons that he does not yet understand - could not erase from his mind.
