The idea of this exhibition ''TANAGOKORO (means 'hand' or 'palm')'' is from the serial essay on the art magazine ''Geijutsu Shincho'', later, edited into the book ''Tanagokoro no BI (The aesthetic of the art in hand)'' published in 1996, written by Iwao SETSU who was the late founder of SETSU GATOH-DOH, the most noted antique shop in Nihonbashi (in east Tokyo).
The exhibition ''TANAGOKORO'' is based on the assumption that Japanese ourselves are probably the only people who play with small artworks by hands. To project this unique sense on contemporary art, it was launched in March 1997 at Roentgen Kunstraum in Aoyama in Tokyo (the previous gallery space of Roentgenwerke AG), and, being well-received, afterwards developed into a serial exhibition. The upcoming exhibition will be the 10th ''TANAGOKORO'', presenting the works of 20x20x20cm in size, which might be slightly oversized for TANAGOKORO, yet is associated with our 20th anniversary.
