The core element of serial photographic works of Koichiro KUTSUNA taken near airports can be attributed to its title ‘Wind Speed 0’.
Wind is generated by uneven heating of the Earth’s surface, resulting in a difference in barometric pressure between two air masses. Thus, ‘Wind Speed 0’ refers to the condition such that the air temperature is even therefore no movement in the air.
What we see in Kutsuna’s photographs are airplane traces which lead us to unknown world of excitement and inorganic constructions which seem to be left behind on the ground.
Choosing photography as his means of creating his own microcosmos, Kutsuna captures windless moments and attempts to fill the gap between those two elements – airplane in the night air and buildings on the ground.
Night views captured by Kutsuna’s emotionless eyes emerge as eternal landscape on printing papers and the audience will be struck wordlessly in front of his cosmos.
A reception for the artist will be held on Friday, 2 July from 18:00 onwards.
Everyone is welcome.
