Paper is thin and light. That is how everyone thinks of paper. But standing in front of a piece created by Seiji ARUGA, such common sense will collapse. In Seiji ARUGA's works, the carved-out parts on each paper form complex shapes of dents while pieces of paper overlapped in numerable layers. Inside those dents is finely sculpted and mysteriously amazes those who carefully appreciate the works turning their experience into one as if being inside a labyrinth. Delicate but with strong will, the time and the efforts dedicated to the pieces give viewers nothing but the feelings of overwhelming.
The world view that settles in works of Seiji ARUGA, along with the developed skills and his incomparable techniques, made Seiji ARUGA obtain great popularity both in Japan and from overseas. This solo exhibition presents works ranging from his early pieces to the latest ones, and shows his variation according to the times.
