MAYA MAXX was born in 1961 in Ehime, Japan., and graduated from Waseda University, School of Education. Since the first solo exhibition in ’93 at Gallery Art Soko, Tokyo, she has exhibited in various art spaces every year including Kirin Art Space (’97) and La Foret Museum in Tokyo(’99). Maya Maxx is a very popular Japanese contemporary artist among the younger generation in Japan. Maya’s work includes paintings, picture books, animation and most recently prints on paper. Through using these varied media, Maya explores neo-Japonisme and the meaning of the modern Japanese soul. Maya Maxx and her art also appear frequently in Japanese media: TV shows; commercials; CD jackets and book illustrations.
The Live Painting events and workshops have become particularly well-known and significant in her body of work. She has visited elementary schools, universities, foster care centers, centers for children needing special care and even coffee shops to collaborate with participants. In 2006, her first live painting performance was held in New York. In 2007, She will work with children in special education class at Public School:in East Village.
