Sera Tsuyoshi was born in 1974. Tsuyoshi had childhood in a remote village in Shimane with traditional Buddhist custom and Iwami myths. Starting drawing from childhood, he was affected by impressionism, post-impressionism, abstract expressionism and neo-expressionism, which are typically found in Japanese cartoon and art education in the countryside.
During studying at Osaka University of Foreign Studies, he researched on comparing Japan with overseers countries about where forming images of human being comes from through artificial object like monster. And after majoring fine art in Austria, he works on contemporary art in Osaka, Sydney and Tokyo.
His work is mainly affected by reincarnation and repeating cosmical sense can be seen in his brush stroke and color. With the theme 'life and death,' he has focused on current 'life' and worked as considering a relationship between a man and an object, image, space, color and time. This is one of art expressions advocated by Japanese critic Matsui Midori, presenting between the mid of 1990s to the first half of 2000s, and similar with micro pop. However, it does not show a daily life as it is but creates 'the uncertain world' as covering a representational painting with abstract expression and putting a lace on it.
The form be a lace looks differently in terms of a place and provides a possibility of veiled life. Also, 'familiar' feeling in artwork arouses contemporary people's sympathy.
