Inevitable
by Yokoi Fine Art
Location: Roppongi Hills Art & Design Store A+D
Artist(s): Yuu TAKEHARA
Date: 31 Aug - 20 Sep 2010

We are pleased to announce that the solo exhibition of Yuu Takehara “inevitable” will be held at Roppongi Hills Art & Design Store A+D from 31st August to 20th September.
As Takehara organized the solo exhibition at YOKOI FINE ART in June, this exhibition is constructed by the artworks selected by herself from her point of view of this stage. You can feel the power to live full of energy from her them.
We look forward to your coming and advertisement.

Since she won the honorable mention of CANON New Cosmos of Photography last year, she has devoted herself to executing and exhibiting her artworks enthusiastically.
In actual, she exhibited 27 artworks at Seoul Photo 2010 in May and 46 artworks at her first solo exhibition “inevitable” in YOKOI FINE ART in June. The latter was constructed by not only the graduation execution which was milestone for her but also the folklore artworks inspired by Hokkaido as her homeland and the roots of her identity. They were exhibited at the gallery installed as mother’s womb and fascinated the audience with its mysterious atmosphere.

When I pull the two different materials close to me, they conflict and begin to insist their own individuality.  I can find something new of a life there. The way of this creation may be violent but I believe this conflict or encounter must be inevitable; it is something beyond an accident.
I also keep in mind that I am a woman. I think a woman is a joint or a part of the cycle of life. I shall try to give a shape to the energy coming from the circulation of life and nature which women have been connecting for a long time.

The process of her execution is very unique. She combines two photographs by putting one on the other as she mentioned above. In addition, she scratches the surface of this photograph by the needle to complete it.
This way of her creation may seem to be violent in a sense but gives birth to the photograph as a very pictorial artwork which is full of the strong life force.

When she exhibits these items, she thinks about the message each artwork has and organizes to send these massages to the audience.
