Show Yourself!
by Yokoi Fine Art
Location: Yokoi Fine Art
Artist(s): Yuki FUJIWARA
Date: 11 May - 29 May 2010

This is the exhibition with Yuki Fujiwara’s 4 latest paintings that we have wished to do for a long time. At Tokyo Contemporary Art Fair at Tokyo Bijutsu Club last November, she exhibited the paintings she had executed before and gave the strong impression to the audience. In this exhibition, she aims at the social problems on the elderly people. The power of the aged man and woman she executed explodes before the beginning of the ultra-aging society.

Yuki Fujiwawra – she has the well-trained ability of dessin and skill of painting. You will find not only the proficiency but also a kind of madness on her canvas. It will make you be awe-stuck and threaten with her obsession about painting. On the other hand, there is her other character which is the sense of humor. That’s why you will discover something whenever you see her paintings.

Please do not miss the chance to be the eyewitness of her paintings at this stage in our gallery.

Words by artist:

I have a try to think about the degeneration of the generation and the care for the aged mind and body. It seems to me that human can not live without dreaming. When the life is kept alive by money, the youth gives value and meaning to it by themselves but the old is given value and meaning to it by ones surrounding them. However, that is another story if he or she has a dream. It will manage to survive when it keeps dreaming even if people do not care about him / her.

Do you need the longevity? It does not fascinate me so much. I think over half my life and imagine about the rest of that. Up to now, I have been given my life and consciousness. From now on, I have to live and be aware by myself. Only the dream brought by someone’s love can give us the power to live without hesitating.

How about the generation gap? Do you enjoy it? I am enjoying the gap and being out of gear at the moment.
GAP is popular and the generation gap is touted now, too. There is nothing to do with the difference of the age. The youth and the aged respect each other and make the gap together.

If they cannot respect each other, the alternative of the generation will occur. The youth must take the place of the aged, however, the aged is much more powerful than the youth nowadays. The aged is going hunting and the battle energetically; poor the young people do not what to do. It shows that the winner is the old. Their body and soul are filled with abundant wealth, experience and knowledge.
How poor the young people, do not protect yourselves! Revive! Arise! Take the dare!

So that I painted a good-natured old man as “King of the longevity planet”.  He putouts the men’s dream. I painted a wild naughty grand mother as “Queen of the longevity planet”. She inputs women’s hope. Please enjoy the gap between King/Queen and yourself.
