Shell
by Yokoi Fine Art
Location: Yokoi Fine Art
Artist(s): Fuyuka HASEGAWA
Date: 11 Dec - 26 Dec 2009

The theme is goods with some signs of life.
The keynote of the color is pink.
Hasegawa draws her soft and wet space with this theme and color.
After an interval of a year from the last exhibition, “KIRARI”, her consciousness is facing the goods which have something overwhelming around her.

I feel easy about silkworms’ cocoons and birds’ nests for keeping body temperature and preventing from the enemies as a shelter.
However, in the same time, I am frightened about them because they seem to bind my hand and foot or suffocate myself.

The big swollen sheets, curtain covering the window and the box one fits into…
They tuck in us warmly but may swallow us as well.
She draws not only the safe and peaceful mind in the closed space but also some anxiety behind it.

I am interested in the centripetal energy which is whirling towards the inner side, not diffusing towards the outside. I may try to paint the warm side of the commonplace scene of the life and the calm violence in it.

Hasegawa has been painting the goods around her and says that her pictures can not go out of the house.
The goods surrounding her are warm at times and tough at times.
This ambivalent sides of them may keep her stay inside of the house or shell.
