Arata Mino was born in 1987. He united the Hippie-b, a theater company that seeks the relationship of photography and physical expression, and acts as a photographer, concept maker, and director for all productions of the company. Hippie-b presented “Backside of Head/Hippie-b” at the Festival / Tokyo last year.
For the presentation at G/P galley, he has started a project as an artist Arata Mino, besides his work for Hippie-b. The motif of this project is “Z (Zombie)” and “G (Ghost)”, and his observations on photograph itself will be presented as a “study” for the future.
I am interested in a pose. The impulsive, subtleties of casual pose people take is not my interest, but I am strongly attracted to a pose with one’s deliberate intention. It is just a tiny gesture. However, I see such a pose is a strong expression in a gesture, that is unmistakably selected with his/her own intention, potentially as an attitude of resistance. He or she expresses their resistance by identifying themselves with characters of some. Their poses have the power to appeal against the society. Yes or No is the gesture selected by them, and that is very my interest. Photography is tricky, because it has a mysterious power that always removes or obscures their selection so easily, but that is why I don’t stop taking photographs. This presentation has started with an invention about the pose of zombies and ghosts. Now I do not know the destination of this project, but this experiment will be the first line in the long history of this story. I hope you to be a witness of what happens here.
