APS is please to announce its 16th exhibition in the series a piece of work, entitled Susanna Niederer: GHP (5) TOKYO, which is held from November 25 to December 12, 2009.
The Swiss artist Niederer, who has primarily shown her works in Europe, will hold her first solo exhibitions in Tokyo, at APS (Ginza) and Gallery Jin (Yanaka, Nov. 28-Dec. 20).
Niederer has exhibited her works in many museums and galleries in Europe, and she is currently holding a large-scale solo exhibition at the Museum Palatine Gallery in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Her works in public collections include the City of Basel, Museum Palatine Gallery, Yale University Art Gallery (USA), Toyota Municipal Museum of Art (Japan), and many other museums and institutions.
Niederer’s works make no assertions, but aim to gently awaken the viewer’s consciousness. The core theme of her works is to visually connect language, sound and images via her “ellipse” motif, which alludes to the ideas of “absence,” “lack” and “gap.” Within her very simple “ellipse” forms, viewers are able to perceive both a sense of warmth and a keenly refined beauty. We hope that many people take this opportunity to visit and experience the tranquil but inspiring world of Niederer’s works.
