Function Dysfunction
by Tomio Koyama Gallery Tokyo
Location: 8/ ART GALLERY/ Tomio Koyama Gallery
Artist(s): Alma ALLEN, Ani KASTEN, Adam SILVERMAN
Date: 14 Nov - 26 Nov 2012

8/ ART GALLERY/ Tomio Koyama Gallery is pleased to present "Function Dysfunction", a group exhibition by Alma Allen, Ani Kasten and Adam Silverman. All three artists work at the line between function and sculpture, and address nature in their own ways. For Alma Allen, who works in the desert of California, nature is the core of his artistic practice. He collects raw materials such as wood and stone to create organic forms which possess the warmth and energy of living things. With the experience of living in England and Nepal, Ani Kasten's work embraces a modern and minimalist aesthetic, while also having the appearance of natural and ancient objects arising from the earth. Adam Silverman worked as the co-founder of X-Large and X-Girl. The unique lava-like textures, organic forms, and unforgettable colors such as cobalt blue of Silverman's work refer to nature in an abstract way, often giving the viewer the impression that they came from underground, from beneath the ocean, or from outer space.
