Numbers and Variations
by MISAKO & ROSEN
Location: Misako & Rosen
Artist(s): Tazuyuki TAKEZAKI
Date: 26 May - 7 Jul 2013

A foundational aspect of Takezaki's practice is a reconsideration of the possibility of the tradition of landscape via the contemporary. Post 2011 - the year of Takezaki's engagement with and re-contexualization of the woodblock prints of Hiroshige, Takezaki's landscapes have taken a peculiar turn. The present exhibition introduces Takezaki's notion of the -variation- realized through the collage of his own and the work of others in complex mixed-media works. Utilizing the discarded paintings of high school students as well as shredded fragments of self-made works, Takezaki complicates -concretely- whom and what is represented.

Kazuyuki Takezaki presently lives and works in Kochi Prefecture, Japan. Recent exhibitions of note include : Real Japanesque, National Museum of Art, Osaka (2012), i'll explain you everythiinnngggg, Chert, Berlin (2012) and Tokaido Landscape, Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum, Shizuoka (2011). Numbers and Variations is Takezaki's third solo exhibition with MISAKO & ROSEN. In the 2013, Takezaki's work will be included in Now Japan at Kunsthal KAde, Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
