Art Taipei 20th Anniversary Exhibition - “Daido Moriyama Exhibition”
by Taka Ishii Gallery Location: Taiwan International Visual Arts Centre
Artist(s): Daido MORIYAMA
Date: 8 Nov - 11 Nov 2013
To commemorate the 20th anniversay of Art Taipei, Daido Moriyama will present 'Daido Moriyama Exhibition,' and exhibition offering an introduction to this acclaimed photographer's body of work. The earliest photographers in this exhibition date from the late 1960s, when Moriyama was involved with provoke, avant-garde magazine published between 1969-70 which has since come to be seen as a seminal work of postwar Japanese art.
Moriyama himself has become a symbol of Japanese photography around the world; last year he was the subject of a two-person exhibition with William Klein held at the Tate Modern in London. Moriyama is known for his intense black and white photographs, and this exhibition will present a selection of 10 images from 'Shashin yo Sayounara,' a particularly radical series. While many of the photographs in this exhibition are silver gelatin prints, the 'Farewell Photography' photographs are silksreened works on paper. Meanwhile, three other large pieces have been silkscreened onto canvas. This technique offers the viewer the opportunity to see Moriyama's images in a way that is proper to the technical production methods of the Provoke era itself.
