Wada Garou Tokyo is pleased to present NY-based young Korean photographers Jun Ahn and Martin Kim’s first exhibition in Japan.
With a sudden change in perspective on life/death and present/future happened to her when she was on the edge of her apartment in New York, Jun Ahn began her endeavor in 'Self-portrait' series to capture the invisible moment and to rebuild the hidden structure of the world. Photography tells her that what you see is not everything and there is always something beyond.
Martin Kim attempts to be a 'flaneur' in order to absorb a relation between physical and social spaces. While his photographic approach explores humanity with as little alteration as possible, ti's constantly bound by a certain social interactions. Seizing this irony by camera that represents the appearance of thing, his 'Lookism' series captures multilayered structure in modern perception of human being. In the underwater series, the water acts as a membrane, allowing the magnified portrayal of transformation and transportation of the subjects to be viewed, and it is both the environment and the main subject.
A reflection enough pressing and honest, but nevertheless philosophical - We should see here a picture of two contemporary youthful minds.
