WanYu Wang is a young and spirited Taiwanese photographer. Even though she is only 24 years old, she has exhibited energetically and successfully her works at home and abroad.
The “specimen” series, presented in this exhibition, is a self-portrait series of being wrapped up. Behind the wrap, she does not have to feel bashful to show herself. Then a "specimen" that we can look at again and again is now completed. In these "beautiful butterflies", hided on purpose her faces which could be focused and be judged subjectively, her tiny privacy can get retained.
This execution is also how she preserve the loveliness, with wrapping it by photographs, one by one.
WanYu says, "Maybe I am too narcissistic, maybe I was girly once, maybe I am still drown in the loveliness that I have hypothesized."
But still, this kind of innocent sensation dedicated to adolescents must had been existed in anyone’s minds. Through her roles differed from herself who narrates the story, and the fear, the dread and the loneliness in her memory, we experience them as if they had been our own.
"I want to keep my prettiness. I dont want to be forgotten."
How egoistic, fragile, but also earnestly and lovely desire is...?
