Since graduating from Tokyo Zokei University, Youichi Uematsu has participated in many experimental exhibitions exploring institutional problems in painting or a trace of education. His first solo exhibition in five years will approach to art history according to the theme, 'Wisdom, Impression, Sentiment,' from multiple perspectives.
When referring to the theme of the exhibition, 'Kuroda Seiki homage - Wisdom, Impression, Sentiment' created in 2010 should be mentioned. It is illustration of a woman on gold-colored background like Kuroda's work. But depicting an idealized body in Uematsu's work is a contemporary form and points out a desire for sexuality. Remaking Kuroda's work revealing the Oriental colors as well as Western culture by well-known artist Takashi Murakami can be inevitable.
Uematsu, one of people affected by Kuroda in terms of idea and art, follows Kuroda's life, and his daily life, the presence of art, Japanese art history, and a relationship between Easter and Western art history are all linked with each other. This connection will be revealed in the gallery.
