Keiji Izumi studied at Tokyo Zokei University and has created wood sculptures expressing the humorous images of the person portrayed. His work has collected by National Museum of Art and received great attentions at international or local art fairs. Also, the solo exhibition at ARATANIURANO in 2009, his wood sculpture with a mix of portrait and landscape got a high opinion.
The sculpture with familiar person as a motif catches the eye of the audience. A woman next to the rainbow, a guy lifting vegetables above his head, and the strong guy covered by ketchup...these situations always look mysterious and spontaneous, but beyond surprise, the sculptures are based on developed attempt in common and successfully embodied technique.
In recent works, he challenges connecting them to the surrounding world as well as shows all efforts done in previous one. By various tries in his works, Izumi shows how a person or an object forms the world as answering his own question.
