Tokyo Arts Gallery proudly presents a new exhibition by Asaoko Shimizu with her tremendous works from “On Her Skin” series. Asako, who has worked with renowned museums and galleries in Japan, chose Uyuni in Bolivia which is located at 3,700 meters high in a mountain as a location for the art work.
“On her skin was born from Asako Shimizu’s travel to the deep end of the world, in an attempt of the artist to find her true self and to experience the lost union of mankind and planet earth (“her”). The figures seem to float in space, in suspended instants of pure harmony. One might think that the striking formal beauty of these images is the result of elaborate image editing, but this is nothing of the sort, and it took all the courage and patience of the artist to capture these magic instants, to witness those unique and perfect meetings of light and man.”
