Date: 6 Feb - 10 Mar 2013

Art works in this exhibition are for 5th Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions hosted by Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.
This year, 'by the Window', the trompe-l`oeil video installation, Ikeda's new works, and his unpublished work made in 2008, completed in Göteborg, will be introduced.

Introduction of the video installation 'Hide and Seek'

Existence of an unconfirmed creature can arouse our curiosity, or cause a controversy; one good example being the story of the Loch Ness monster, Nessie. During my stay in Göteborg, I heard a few stories, the reliability of which could not be confirmed; “Be careful, there seems to be a wild moose on that hill.”, or “I saw a white fox behind your house” and so on. These kinds of mysterious stories usually have no confirmed source or supporting evidence. In many cases, they start with someone’s little lies. Yet, even though it is not true, it is heart-warming to see someone drawing on one’s imagination to establish its credibility, or to insist its improbability. Conceivably, such a little lie might be a “necessary lie” for human beings to lead abundant lives.
Hide and Seek is an attempt to provide an episode of a necessary lie.
- Mitsuhiro Ikeda
