Artist(s): Hisao HANAFUSA
Date: 16 Nov - 22 Dec 2012

KOKI ARTS is proud to announce Hisao Hanafusa's solo exhibition, "UCHUIDEN KIOKU". As Hanafusa has lived and worked in New York City for 50 years, this will be his first exhibition in Japan in 22 years, and the first in Tokyo in 34 years. After graduating Kyoto University of Fine Arts and moving to New York City in 1963, Hanafusa has experienced success as an artist, having a solo show at Stable Gallery in 1969, and having his works acquired and included in a total of 4 group shows at the Guggenheim Museum during the 1970s and 1980s. His most recent solo exhibition was held at GARY SNYDER Project Space in New York City in 2011. "UCHUIDEN KIOKU" will showcase the series of works with aluminum paint, which Hanafusa had worked on from 2001-2003.

UCHUIDEN KIOKU
I believe that all humans have uchuiden or “universal memory.” If we access our uchuiden, then we can express it through art, music, and other forms of creativity. Discovering one’s uchuiden is a journey that anyone can make. My work is an exploration of the mysteries of my own uchuiden.
