Subcultures such as punk, noise, psychedelic, alternative, hip hop and goth, imported once from America and Europe, are maturing originally after mixtures and mutations in Japanese linguistic culture and in the kitsch landscapes such as electric cables hanging down untidy. They have influenced Japanese artists profoundly then become visible in their works.
SPROUT Curation define the art phenomenon “Alter-Japan”and intends to delve continuously this critical context into various perspectives.
This first exhibition of the theme focuses on “Zen and Psychedelic”, searching the perpetual associations of chaos and silence, in the various visual expressions such as paintings, photographs and video installations by Japanese artists to verify their own arrival point.
