Artist's Statement
One day I was standing in the middle of a crowd at the busiest crossing in downtown Tokyo. With everyone else and me waiting for the traffic light to turn green I thought: "We are at the same place, at the same time and we think about the same thing but do we actually share the same view of this particular moment?" Whilst I was having this strange thought I removed myself from the picture and I no longer recognized the scene.
Our existence is uncertain. The way I see the world is not shared by others and perception is the truth. This perception has been formed by our history and memories and it is what makes us unique. Most of the time we are so unaware of what we think, see and feel. The characters in my work are people at that crossing in downtown Tokyo. The crowd has been replaced by a cloud which is symbolic: clouds are always shifting, much like the future which we imagine but cannot predict. The theme of my current body of work is "Wavering Things in Our Lives".
