Artist(s): Daido MORIYAMA
Date: 11 May - 9 Jun 2012

Taka Ishii Gallery Photography/Film is pleased to present an exhibition marking the publication of “Color”, a collection of new digital photography works by Daido Moriyama.

The young lady who coolly crosses my path is a work of art. The middle-aged man sitting on the sidewalk in front of her is also a work of art. The middle-aged woman feverishly shopping in a crowded store is also a work of art. The cat stretching and yawning on the wall over there is also a work of art.
The young guy in Kabukicho, the couples walking in the love hotel district, and the drunks in Golden-Gai are all, through and through, works of art.
In other words, the city of Tokyo is filled with art and all of its people are works of art. What about me, walking around with my digital camera, clicking away, and taking photos of this, that, and the other? Might I be a work of art too?

March 7, 2012 Daido Moriyama

Moriyama shot approximately 30,000 photographs in Tokyo using his digital camera between 2008 and 2012. He carefully selected 191 images for “Color”, which will be published in April 2012. The upcoming exhibition, which will be held to mark the publication of “Color”, will feature an installation of digital test prints and several enlarged lambda prints. 99 of the 30,000 images were previously displayed, dramatically covering the walls of one exhibition room in their entirety, in the retrospective exhibition “Daido Moriyama: On the Road”, held last year at the National Museum of Art, Osaka. “Color” represents an exciting new development in the artist’s oeuvre.
