Space is permeated and restored back to color
by Maki Fine Arts
Location: Maki Fine Arts
Artist(s): Sayaka SUZUKI
Date: 26 Oct - 24 Nov 2013

Maki Fine Arts is pleased to present Sayaka Suzuki's solo show "Space is permeated and restored back to color".

Born 1988, Suzuki is the recipient of the top VOCA award for the 2013 Vision of Contemporary Art competition. In her first solo show with Maki Fine Arts, the artist will showcase her new paintings interweaved with other representative works.

In her paintings, Suzuki uses the theme of relative connections found between self and others. Observers of her work will notice reappearing motifs such as the inside of a room symbolizing personal space and windows representing the link to the outside world. Tender tones of pastels and daring compositions utilizing the spatial perspective of the interior add a unique rhythm to the surface of the canvas while simultaneously producing airiness and comfort. Suzuki's work is also characterized by her method of appropriately using both the flat surface of acrylic paint and the organic strokes and bleeds of oil paint. In her more recently works, the artist incorporates cloth collage to the canvas to add adornment and rich texture resulting in spatial layers that exude tension.
