In tribute to the 5th anniversary of the Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton in Paris, Louis Vuitton is delighted to host French artist Xavier Veilhan for the inaugural exhibition of the Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo.

Famous for his installations anchored in urban reality, Veilhan received special recognition in 2009 thanks to an exhibition of his works at the Château de Versailles. Intent on sharing the essence of things, the artist decomposes reality. He is also a thoroughly modern artist who blends ancient aesthetics and new processes (and conversely, new aesthetics and ancient processes) wherein spectacularness is not the objective but the means.

In creating this exhibition, Xavier Veilhan drew inspiration from the Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo, suspended between heaven and earth on the 7th floor of the Maison Louis Vuitton Omotesando. Named “Free Fall”, the exhibition was “conceived specifically for this central, weightless place”, he notes. “It invites me to reconstitute the mental and aerial dimensions which can be reached through art.”.

In keeping with its commitment to the creative world, Louis Vuitton is supporting Xavier Veilhan’s work in a parallel project. One of his creations, Mobile, specially conceived for the Gabriel staircase of the Château de Versailles, now belongs to Louis Vuitton. On December 16th 2010, it has installed in the presence of the artist at the Maison Louis Vuitton on New York’s Fifth Avenue.
