This exhibition is to celebrate Keizo Kitajima's photograph book 'USSR 1991' (Little Big Man, U.S.A) in November, 2012.
Keizo has published another photo book 'A.D 1991' in 1991, but photos taken in 1991 were not included. The collapse of the former Soviet Union was unexpected affair to Keizo. At that moment, he took photos there and thought 'I'll publish these photos when people almost forget about it about 10 or 15 years later.' Thus, he remembered it and decide the title as 'A.D 1991' for photos from late 1980's.
To Keizo Kitajima, the year of 1991 was a significant time. At the time Keizo finished long-term project of street photo and began two series, 'PORTRAITS' and 'PLACES', which are still ongoing.
'I don't insist theory of reflection, but it's not related to the development of globalism, neo liberalism, market-opening, the shock doctrine by Naomi Klein after 1992.'
This exhibition will show 30 works selected by artist from the photo books 'USSR1991' and 'A.D 1991'.
