Photographer's gallery organizes Kumi Yokoyu's new exhibitions 'There Once Was' and 'Time Indoors Outdoors' at the gallery and Kula Photo gallery respectively. Yokoku has photographed her grandmother's life, and time she lived. 'Can't we listen to dead people's voice? How to communicate with them or the past?' After grandmother passed away, she expressed a landscape faded by snow, or receded memories as photos and texts.
'Time Indoors Outdoors' is about plants, flowers, and a vase for grandmother after she couldn't go out to the garden since suffering from the debility. After she passed away, Yokoku doesn't have to grow flowers and a story of a vase was ended. But memories or thoughts staying in the vase or the garden connect us to dead people. This exhibition will show direct print photos and mixed media installation.
'There Once Was' is about grand mother's sketch she drew when she was 8 years old, and photos taken on the last day of grandmother before she passed away and the day after funeral. Direct print and laser print on paper works will be exhibited.
