Digesting Decoration II
by Imura Art Gallery | Tokyo
Location: Imura Art Gallery | Tokyo
Artist(s): Satoshi SOMEYA
Date: 5 Jul - 20 Jul 2014

Imura art gallery tokyo presents Satoshi Someya's solo exhibition "Digesting Decoration II". It is his first solo exhibition taken place at imura art gallery tokyo.

Satoshi SOMEYA uses the traditional Kanshitsu (dry lacquer) technic in order to highlight the curves of the human bodies and the animals he's modeling. The decorative representations evoke the everyday life and the memories of the artist.

This second opus of the exhibition "Digesting Decoration" which took place in Kyoto is based on the various translations, in a decorative form, of the Japanese word "Yo" (to use). "To use" in Japanese can be understood as a word made to signifie the function of a container or a lidded pottery for example, but "To use" held also the meaning of a strong link that exists between the object and the human heart itself.

Through the lacquer, everything that catches the eyes of Someya in the everyday life, is included to participate at the creation of the decorative expression, while adding a touch of humor in the art of ceramic.

"These things, even if they seems useless, they are useful to the heart, because they convey a feeling", Satoshi Someya.
