Noriyuki Nakayama solo exhibition
by Imura Art Gallery | Tokyo
Location: Imura Art Gallery, Tokyo
Artist(s): Noriyuki NAKAYAMA
Date: 24 Mar - 14 Apr 2012

Imura art gallery tokyo proudly announces the launch of a solo exhibition of Noriyuki Nakayama on March 24th, 2012.

Noriyuki Nakayama, born in 1968 in Nagano prefecture, graduated from department of oil painting at Musashino Art University in 1993, nominated for Shell Art Award and showed his art work at an exhibition of VOCA 2006. He is also active overseas that his solo exhibition held in Norway in 2008 acquired high repute from local art concerned people and collectors. Nakayama has been consistently producing paintings of faces and figures of women, particularly works closes up to face after 2001. Not portraying a particular model, the woman is formed with artist's memories and experiences of daily life, and thus her expression possesses ambiguity reflecting the inner state of viewers.

We are going to make advantage of the first solo exhibition of Nakayama in 5 years to show the 10 works produced after 2009 including a large sized piece "Tomorrow". As is revealed in the artist's statement that he is "at a point where to reconsider the meaning of depicting humans", we are convinced this exhibition has a significance to be a turning point for him to contemplate the origin of creation and the meaning of being an artist.
